About Us

Mission Statement

Bridging the Gap aimed to work across divides which were apparent in the community, providing opportunities for people to discover common ground.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of Bridging the Gap was:

  • To value the humanity and nurture the potential of every individual, and, where appropriate, provide practical support.
  • To build positive relationships across the divides, with particular reference to the integration of the socially isolated, Black and Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and the transition from primary to secondary schools.
  • To celebrate the good in the Gorbals community and beyond, by providing the opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds to discover their common ground, overcoming racism, sectarianism, territorialism, poverty and isolation.

BtG Ethos

Since 1998, Bridging the Gap has worked with the entire community, building cohesion and giving people opportunities to find common ground. The thread that weaves though the organisation is that we support people so they are more able to support themselves, and, in turn, support others. It is not without its challenges, but our values and principles continue to be the guiding light for everyone involved.

Demand for our services has continued to grow, and our projects continue to bring people together from many different social backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. We have established and maintained strong links with many different groups and partners, particularly through the Gorbals Regeneration Group and the Gorbals Third Sector Forum.

Throughout all circumstances, Bridging the Gap continues to be an essential and valued resource to a wide cross section of the community; one that will be more necessary and relevant in the future than ever.

Our strength is that we don’t stand alone- our work is all about partnerships with people and organisations.

What people have said about Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap is an exceptional community based charity working to improve the lives of the young people and families who use their services.

The schools work in particular has a huge impact on those young people going through transition. I have met a number of their young people who have been through their programme who can articulate the high impact there work has had in relation to their own self-belief, confidence and ability to cope with transitions throughout education. Their innovative approach to service delivery is something I would hope would start to be mirrored as excellent examples of good practice throughout the third sector and beyond.

Mark Brown Director of Mark Brown Programmes, Faciliator of ‘Best of You’

Thank you so much to all of you for presenting today. It was fantastic to hear the Bridging the Gap story and an absolute privilege to hear Helen, Tony, Marie and John's stories - especially John's. I can safely say that I have never been moved to tears in a work event before. I am so pleased he found you and I hope we can help more people like John find more places like Bridging the Gap in future

Gil Wylie Community Safety Unit

Whenever I have come in to contact with Bridging the Gap, I have been impressed with the individuals who co-ordinate the transition project and the smooth and innovative way in which the project is run. I completely recognise the need for the work of Bridging the Gap does in providing potentially marginalised and excluded young people with the opportunity to flourish educationally, as well as socially
